Deputy Director Hernandez welcomed Commissioner Erika Bernal to the Commission. She congratulated Ashley Reid on her promotion to Community Services Specialist in Special Events and introduced Carrie Hosozawa and Joanne Hwang from Community Development.
Senior Management Analyst Jenn Colacion announced that the Commissioners would need to have their headshots taken for the new system and to coordinate with staff.

6.A. Approval of the Minutes of the Meeting of February 14, 2024
Commissioner Schultz moved, seconded by Commissioner Price, to approve the February 14, 2024 Minutes.

Abstain: Bernal, Falco
Motion Passed 3-0-1
6.B. Commission Reorganization -
Commissioner Schultz made a motion, which Commissioner Bernal seconded, to nominate Commissioner Falco as Chair.
Ayes: Price, Schultz, Shay, Bernal, Falco
Motion Passed 5-0
Commissioner Price made a motion, which Commissioner Shay seconded, to nominate Commissioner Schultz as Vice Chair.
Ayes: Falco, Bernal, Price, Schultz, Shay

7. Discussion
7.A. Focused General Plan Update - Community Steering Committee Appointment
City Planner Joanne Hwang provided an overview of the upcoming General Plan Update and explained the representative's time commitment. Commissioner Price volunteered to be the representative for the General Plan Update, with Vice Chair Schultz serving as an alternate.
7.B. Commission Committee Appointments
Senior Management Analyst Jenn Colacion explained that the Commission and Committee appointments could be discussed and/or changed at this point in the meeting. After a brief discussion, it was decided that Commissioner Bernal would represent the Country Fair and Gallery Committee, with the remaining appointments staying the same.
7.C. Through the Dreamhouse - Exhibition Recap
Gallery Director Katie Chidester gave an overview of the Through the Dreamhouse Exhibit. The Commission commended the work she and her team put into the exhibit.
7.D. Special Events Update
Community Services Specialist Ashley Reid recapped the Spring Craft Boutique, the Pet Expo and the displaying of a wreath to honor National Vietnam War Veterans Day at the Brea Veteran's Memorial.
7.E. Site Awareness/Experience Brea Art Update
Elliott Forrester from the Curtis Theatre talked about the upcoming Taste of Brea and the public outreach that will take place there on May 23.
He discussed the banner program, its boundaries, and its costs. Senior Management Analyst Colacion provided context for Commissioner Bernal, stating that a Site Awareness Committee had been created to discover how best to inform the public about all of the offerings available to the community at the Civic Center.
Vice Chair Schultz suggested reusing the banners or using a more generic banner. Staff proposed different options and talked about what other cities are doing. Deputy Director Hernandez mentioned that the city is now looking at the wayfinding signs in a different light as some of the developments around the Civic Center are coming to fruition, with the potential for more pedestrians. Vice Chair Schultz suggested staff come back with suggestions regarding reusable signage.
7.F. Cultural Arts Master Plan Next Steps
Senior Management Analyst Colacion spoke about Art in Public Places suggestions:

Staff asked for feedback from the Commission.
Chair Falco would like Art in Public Places and the Gallery sub-committee updates. Vice Chair Schultz commended the staff on their leadership and vision. He feels this plan should be reviewed every 6 months. Commissioner Bernal would like to know about any significant updates as they happen. Deputy Director Hernandez suggested that a Commission Member report back to the Council at a City Council meeting.

Theatre Director Kris Kataoka said they would start reviewing submissions for Amplify very soon.

Gallery Director Katie Chidester would like to arrange for the committee to meet sometime this summer.
9.C. Site Awareness Ad Hoc Committee
Vice Chair Schultz would like to meet prior to Brea Fest.
9.D. Art in Public Places Advisory Committee
No updates.
9.E. Staff
Theatre Director Kris Kataoka provided some details about upcoming shows.
Ashley Reid reminded the Commission about Love Brea on April 27, 2024.
Elliott Forrester mentioned the Taste of Brea on May 23, 2024.
