8. REPORT FROM CAPTAIN NORMAN OF CARSON SHERIFF'S STATION- 6:26 PM
Item No. 8 was heard after approval of the Consent items.
Captain Norman reported/announced the following:
- Special Operation Patrol conducted from July 2nd to July 9th to support the No Fireworks Policy which included activities of calls of service, citations issued, illegal fireworks recovered, and arrests were made; a home sustained about $50,000 worth of damage due to fireworks
- Street Takeover Operation conducted on July 13, 2025 at two locations; citations issued, vehicles towed, and arrests were made
- Carson Pocket Bike Operation conducted due to the increase of motorized bicycles traveling throughout Carson and Los Angeles County cities; an arrest was made
- Invited everyone to the upcoming Community Night Out event on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Council Member/Agency Member/Authority Board Member Dear thanked Captain Norman for her thorough reports and encouraged everyone to attend the Community Night Out event.
Council Member/Agency Member/Authority Board Member Rojas reiterated the statistics that Captain Norman shared about the misdemeanor citations issued from the 4th of July holiday.
Council Member/Agency Member/Authority Board Member, Dr. Hilton asked for clarity about the citations. Captain Norman responded to his question. He asked for staff to bring a report showing how many people have paid the fines in the past.
Mayor Pro Tempore/Agency Vice Chairman/Authority Vice Chairman Hicks, Sr. stated that he heard from residents that overall, there was a decrease of fireworks from Memorial Day to the Fourth of July. He also shared that he would like the City Manager's Office to work with Dignity Health Sports Park on a future robust Fourth of July show.
Council Member/Agency Member/Authority Board Member, Dr. Hilton suggested the City host a future Fourth of July drone show.

Mayor Pro Tempore/Agency Vice Chairman/Authority Vice Chairman Hicks, Sr. shared a Happy 4th of July greeting; thanked Dignity Health Sports Park for an outstanding fireworks show; asked if the ad hoc committee can begin meeting to plan a robust show for next year. He asked for a report regarding enforcement of the street takeovers. City Manager Roberts, Jr. shared that the drones were also used to detect street takeovers and not just for fireworks. He stated the consultant for the drones will provide an informational report.
