If you would like to participate in this meeting, you can participate via the following options:

  1. PARTICIPATE BEFORE THE MEETING by emailing the Gardena Board/Commission/Committee at publiccomment@cityofgardena.org two (2) hours before the meeting starts on the day of the meeting and write "Public Comment" in the subject line.
  2. ATTEND THE MEETING IN PERSON

    PUBLIC COMMENT: The Gardena Board/Commission/Committee will hear from the public on any item on the agenda or any item of interest that is not on the agenda at the following times:

    • Agenda Items - At the time the Board/Commission/Committee considers the item or during Public Comment.
    • If you wish to address the Gardena Board/Commission/Committee, please complete a “Speaker Request” form and present it to staff. You will be called to the podium by name when it is your turn to address the Board/Commission/Committee. The Board/Commission/Committee cannot legally take action on any item not scheduled on the Agenda. Such items may be referred for administrative action or scheduled on a future Agenda. Members of the public wishing to address the Board/Commission/Committee will be given three (3) minutes to speak.

This is the time where the public may address the Gardena Youth Commission on items that are not on the agenda, but within the Gardena Youth Commission jurisdiction. Comments should be limited to three minutes.

6. YOUTH COMMISSIONER REPORT

A. Events Attended November - December 2025

Any feedback or comments on the city events attended by Youth Commissions such as Too Cute to Spook, Halloween Haunted House, Dia de los Muertos, Movie Nights, Operation Gobble, Winter Wonderland, and Helping Hands.

B. Goals for Youth Commission 2026

Commissioners will express what goals and desires they have for the members of the Youth Commission for the year 2026. What outcome or achievement would you like to see completed this year?

7. STAFF LIAISON REPORT

A. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade - January 17, 2026, 11:00am - 1:00pm

B. Teen Night - February 6, 2026, 6:30pm - 9:30pm

C. Future Events

Girl Boss Workshop - March 20, 2026, 6:00pm - 9:00pm Youth in Government Day - April 16, 2026, 9:00am - 3:00pm (all Commissioners must be present) Boys to Men Workshop - May 8, 2026, 5:30pm - 8:30pm *Please make sure to note the meeting dates (second Monday of the month) till the end of the year, and important events such as teen events.

D. California Association of Youth Commission

As stated in the previous commission meeting, Commissioners expressed interest in joining CAYC. To join, Commissioners can fill out a membership form, and there is no time commitment on the Commissioners' part, but if you as Commissioners would like to join individually a link will be provided. It will be approximately one hour per week. Overall, for Youth Commission, there is no cost and no time commitment to join CAYC, as the main purpose is to provide a forum for members of local Youth Commissions across California to share, best practices amongst each other in order to enhance the efforts between towns.

E. Commissioners Resigning

The City of Gardena code states that each member shall be a resident of the City and be between fourteen and eighteen years of age. Once Commissioners turn nineteen, it is their responsibility to resign.

F. Opportunity to visit Japan

The City of Gardena is taking staff and Commissioners to Japan as representatives of the city. The trip will occur in the last week of July. Would any Commissioners be interested in going?

8. NEW BUSINESS

A. Consideration of Providing Feminine Products - Memo

Mayor Cerda is interested in the consideration of providing feminine products and dispensers in all public restrooms within City-Owned and Operated facilites. As Youth Commissioners and voices of the next generation, what are some feedback, comments, or suggestions that could go towards providing feminine products and what are some ways it can be implemented?

9. OLD BUSINESS

A. Water Safety Workshop Event

Information on Water Safety Workshop Event is being planned amongst City staff. When more detailed information is available, it will be provided to commissioners.

B. Generation Connect

In the previous meeting, there was approval to partner with the organization, Generation Connect and bring this program to Gardena. The City of Gardena currently has tech classes for seniors on the 1st and 3rd Friday at 10:00am. Would it be possible to attend and assist with these tech classes during school breaks to become more familiar with assisting seniors with technology?

10. ADJOURNMENT

The Gardena Youth Commission will adjourn to the next meeting at 6:30 pm on February 9, 2026.
